Spiked CBD, Peanut Allergy Treatment, and a Swallowed Ring?

Spiked CBD products, a new peanut allergy therapy, and what happened when a woman swallowed her engagement ring (yup). It’s all covered in my latest segment for CNN’s Headline News.(Click to watch here, or watch below).

Here’s what you should know:

CBD:  There are more and more stories about CBD products being spiked with marijuana and other substances. Bottom line, in several testing studies, 2/3 of CBD products didn’t have the amount of CBD they claimed, and over 1/3 were contaminated with other things, like marijuana (and some with synthetic marijuana). Which means that people thinking they’re getting a CBD product may actually be getting way more than they bargained for. Without the products being controlled by the FDA (or any other regulatory group), it’s the Wild West. Don’t venture in, lest you be a guinea pig.

A New Peanut Allergy Treatment:  There’s a new medication for which the FDA has recommended approval, called Palforzia. This is a form of Oral Immunotherapy, where people with allergies are exposed to TINY amounts of the substance to which they’re allergic, with the hope of desensitizing their immune system. While Palforzia isn’t currently on the market, parents of kiddos with allergies should know that they CAN seek Oral Immunotherapy through many allergists (and some have really interesting protocols currently underway!)

Sleep-eating?? Yep – a woman swallowed her engagement ring while she was sleeping, and lived to tell about it. No surprise to this ER doctor. My patients never cease to amaze me :).
