Protect Your Noggin While Skiing or Snowboarding!

A new research review (read it here: Helmet Use in Skiing and Snowboarding) showed that helmet use while skiing or snowboarding cut the risk of skull fractures and severe head injury by MORE THAN HALF, in both adults and kids.

Prior concerns that wearing helmets may make people engage in riskier (translation: “stupid”) activities, or that it may increase the risk of neck injury, were found to have no significant impact in this review.  [Thereby confirming what I’ve seen as an ER physician–that people who are going to do something crazy will do so, whether they’re wearing protective gear or not].

Bottom line?  Whether you’re skiing like a crazy person (or just trying to avoid them), protect your noggin.  It’s the only one you’ve got!
